House Party!

House Party is a company that sends freebies out to member in exchange for them hosting a "house party" (in our case a church party) with the free items in order to promote certain products. Since the men had the dreaded annual business meeting, us gals and the kids made an afternoon of it.

Cookie swap!

At least three people have asked, "what are you going to do with 9 dozen cookies since it's just the two of you!" [as if they didn't freeze ;)] Anyone who asks this does know my husband. During this time of year, 108 cookies will last about a week. No exaggeration. And that's just on his part. If I would like to have a few, you'd better made that only 5-6 days worth. At least this saves me from a little bit of baking!

Everyone's cookies were incredibly tasty. Special thanks to Katy for making the bonus Apricot balls (Dave doesn't eat fruit of any kind so I get them all!!!) and to Cindy for sharing her cookies with some of the ladies who didn't participate.

What better way to spend a cold, rainy evening! I was trying to be artsy by turning the camera to make "wonky" pictures, but it wound up just looking stupid. Oh well!

Gervens/Greenway Genealogy

I was having one of "those days" and you can't imagine how the clouds parted when the postman delivered the much-anticipated Gervens family history!

Special thanks to the Greenways for their willingness to put in the time, work, and dollars necessary to preserve our heritage. Now my brain doesn't have to hurt when I look at my heritage scrapbook and try to visualize where everyone belongs and in what order. Knowing their names and having a photo is one thing, but to see how they fit into the "big picture" and have records of immigration, births, marriages, and deaths really makes us feel more connected to our ancestry.

And best of all, it's klutz-proof! If I ruin the thing, it's all backed up on disc!

Here's the groovy Gervens Sr. section. Very important because without them...

There would be no groovy Gervens Jr.'s! And what kind of sick world would THAT be. *wink*

We voted and have the stickers to prove it.

We have that which was our duty to do. Thankfully there were no lines at the polls or I guarantee we would have shirked said duty!

Chile Rellenos

Dad's garden yielded quite a bounty of peppers this year so with the impending frost there were many that needed to be cooked or frozen so I tried my hand at chile rellenos. They were great if I do say so myself. Next time I won't pour store-bought canned salsa on them though. I was just toooo lazy to make the real thing. ;)

Annual "weenie roast"

We still call in the Weenie Roast even though we haven't roasted weenies the traditional way in years. Particularly not with the burn ban fad that's been popular the past few years. What's up with that? It didn't rain today! Nobody light a match!

Anyhoo...despite mucho planning DRAMA we all had a good time. At least I did and that's all that matters, right? ;)

The chocolate fountain once it started working. Unfortunately, we'd eaten so much chocolate out of it already that that flow wasn't consistent. Oh well. It was tasty!

Fireproof Ketchup

Sorta. We went to see Fireproof and then to eat at Ketchup!It's a Bridge Street restaurant that opened recently. There's one here and in L.A. so I guess Huntsville is moving up in the world! Some days were happy about that (like when we get to eat at a trendy restaurant) and sometime we're ticked off (like when you go all day without hearing a Southern accent)

Six different kinds of Ketchup. I liked them all. Dave's favorite was the chipotle.

It occurred to me last night (as I was trying to sleep of course) that between the pictures and video this post contained way too much location-specific information. Here's our house stalkers and serial killers! Key's under the mat!

Coffee talk

Joy and I went out for coffee at her new favorite place, Stearns. The coffee was stronger and fresher than Starbucks and there's just something special about drinking from a real mug with the company logo swirled into the froth!

My logo didn't turn out right, but the spiral is still pretty. Thanks Joy! Had a great time.
