Grandma Gervens had asked Dad many years ago to perform her services when the time came. So many people attending the visitations and funeral and Dad was able to verbally witness to as well as get tracts in the hands of everyone from his brother's business acquaintances to the funeral directors. His message of salvation at the actual funeral was so clear that I wanted to raise my hand and get saved again! :) What a blessing that two people trusted Christ as Saviour as a result of Grandma Gervens' life, legacy. and testimony.

In Memory of Marjorie Gervens 1914-2007
Dave’s grandmother passed away Sunday. We will be flying up to New Jersey Wednesday for the services. A special thanks to Joe at SCS for using his company skymiles to fly us up on short notice. It means the world to us! Please keep the Gervens family in your prayers.

Scavenger Hunt
The annual scavenger hunt this year was the best ever! Although I may be a little biased since my team won…Go team Jacob!!! The clues were actually decipherable this year. Thanks for dumbing it down for us Bro. Mac! :P

Fun with the Spellmans
While Dave was in Connecticut I got to spend some quality time with Jeremy, Julie, and Noah.
He's so cuddly in the mornings!

The MAZE
A very long story, but suffice it to say that this was a complete and total rip-off. The alien maze that was open during the day was easy to walk through in 5 minutes and the corn was so short and dwarfed that there was no challenge! $12 for 5 minutes of stomping through a field! Fortunately, we saved the day by eating out together at Big Bob Gibson’s BBQ and laughing the whole time about what suckers we were. :)

Formal Night
This was so much fun and Dave didn't mind too bad since we also got a professional shot for Christmas cards this year. Now he doesn't have to go though a photo session when we get home!
I had a DOUBLE order of lobster just because I could. Yummy!

Cozumel
The only good thing I have to say about Cozumel is...look at the gorgeous water! It almost looks artificial it is so turquoise and pictures really don't do it justice.

Progreso, Mexico
I loved the town of Progreso! It was so charming and "real" unlike most touristy commercialized Mexican ports of call.
We bought a bracelet from this guy who kept calling Dave "Mr. Flat-top" LOL All of the vendors spoke English until we wandered back into the marketplace where the locals shop. We got some serious stares. As a sociology major I loved every minute of it including all the fly covered meat but Dave could definitely have done without that little side excursion. I enjoyed using some Spanish and getting out some Spanish tracts and Bibles which were well-received.

The locals here are of Mayan descent and are smaller and shorter that most other Mexicans. Our guide's grandmother is a full-blooded Mayan and only speaks Mayan: no Spanish. The Spanish spoke in Progreso as well as the rest of Yucatan has a Mayan accent and is spoken very slowly! I couldn't believe I could actually make out individual Spanish words instead of just hearing a barrage of tongue-rolling syllables.
A park area with picnic tables
Less than an hour later we were at Dzibilchaltun!
The first order of business was "taking care of business." Check out the seatless toilet! I'm loving the pedal flusher though and wish we would do that in the States. More sanitary!
The main ruin! This is the oldest man-made structure I've ever seen and it was awe-inspiring. During the Solstices and Equinoxes, either the sun or the moon will line up perfectly in the windows or the central doorway depending on which solstice or equinox it is.
View out the back window
This is a totem-type structure that is located in way out in front of the main temple.
Dave enjoyed seeing old style Beetles that were only a couple years old and other cars that aren't manufactured here in the States.
Dzibilchaltun was the highlight of the trip for both of us!
